Years Experience: 12
Austin F. Schmidt first began his education as a fine arts major at Point Loma University in San Diego. There he became familiar with artistic composition and detail, which naturally applied to his future as a cinematographer. Years later he began his education in the craft of cinematography at New York University Tisch Film School. He continued to study at FAMU in Prague and later at AFI in Los Angeles.
While living in Manhattan, Schmidt created AFS Productions, a cinematography and camera operating service. During this time, he also taught camera and lighting classes at the New York Film Academy. Over the years he has formed relationships with vendors on both coasts of the United States including camera and equipment rental houses such as Clairmont and Panavision, and post-production facilities like Technicolor.
Currently, Schmidt offers the use of his Moviecam 35MM synch motion picture camera, accessory equipment, and working expertise of the camera's operation and motion picture photography as an art form. He operates as a bi-coastal cinematographer out of Los Angeles and Manhattan.
