Avni Abazi hails from Republic of Kosovo. He was born on 1976 in the city of Peja, and currently resides in New York City. In March 2006, he produced and directed the Albanian-language stage comedy "American Dream Audition", modeled on the popular "American Idol" series.
In November 2006 he was assistant director and stage coordinator of the biggest Albanian cultural musical event in USA, The 16th Albanian Festival in New York City. The festival gathers together 3000 viewers. He's been featured in independent films, regional theatre roles and commercials. He graduated from the University of Prishtina in 2002 with a degree in acting, and has since been a professional in that field. Avni has demonstrated his talent as an actor in a number of plays. In his last performance "Shfaqja e Fundit" (The Last show), a play directed by Fadil Hysaj, Avni shared the stage with Tinka Kurti and Reshat Arbana, performed in 1999 in Albania's National Theater in Tirana. He also performed in the play "Te lumet ne Per kete Liri" (We are Grateful for Freedom) directed by Faruk Begolli; the Shakespearean comedy "Andrra e Nje Nate Vere" (A Midsummer Night's Dream) directed by Ilir Bokshi, and in many other plays.
In June 2002 through his work with ACADB, Avni produced the first television series in post-war Kosova in league with the U.S. Office, in Prishtina. The 15-episode series, Jeta e Nje Toke (The Life of a Land) was a great success in Kosova, and the first-ever civil society-style television program ever made there.
His success in Kosova took him to the Southeast European Film Conference in Norman, Oklahoma (Oklahoma University), where he presented his series together with the winner of the Venice Film Festival "Before the Rain" (Macedonia), the Oscar winner documentary "Into The Arms of Strangers", and the Oscar winner "No Man's Land" (Bosnia).
For his innovation and achievements in Kosovar Cinematography in 2003, he was presented with an Award of Appreciation by The U.S. Department of State. In March 2005, Avni was elected President of the Union of Film Artists of Kosovo.
In November 2005, he departed Kosova to pursue his career in United States under the U.S. Immigration provision specifiying that he possessed "Extraordinary Ability in Filmmaking". Today Avni resides in New York City, where in March 2006 he produced and directed the Albanian-language stage comedy ?American Dream Audition?, modeled on the popular "American Idol" series and famues Kosovar play "Jam Talent se jo Mahi" by Faruk Begolli.
