Jan Finnell is a Costume Designer for Stage, Opera, TV, Commercials, Web, Print and Feature Film with over 20 years of experience. In 2005, after many years of working in feature films as an assistant, she designed her first feature, ‘The Last New Yorker’, directed by Harvey Wang, starring Dominic Chianese, Dick Latessa, Kathleen Chalfant and Josh Hamilton. Her film work led to commercials and television, and she has worked with Brett Favre, Peter Nero, Sherman Helmsley, Isabel Sanford, and many others. A Christmas Special starring the Celtic Choral group Anúna, titled, ‘Christmas Memories’ will be aired in December 2008 on PBS throughout the U.S. Her stage and opera work has been profiled in ‘Entertainment Design’ magazine. In addition to her costume design skills, she is an experienced and talented illustrator, and is developing a portfolio in character, fantasy and conceptual design, book illustration and writing for children, and editorial illustration.
In 2006, Jan opened an online store called ‘Over the Top’, featuring bohemian, eclectic one-of-a-kind jewelry made from vintage and new beads, buttons, brass stampings, ephemera and semi-precious gemstones. She has been featured in ‘Craft’ online and on several design blogs. 2008 saw an explosion of sales as the line evolved, with wholesale orders and special commissions from all over the world, including her home stomping ground, Broadway. Previous to jewelry, Jan designed and created hats for children that were sold at Barneys, Shoofly, and other stores in New York City.
