With a passion for storytelling, Marc Furmie began developing his filmmaking abilities as soon as he was old enough to hold a camera.
After studying Fine Arts at the University of New South Wales, during which,he shot several experimental films, Marc began directing music videos for independent artists and was eventually hired to direct commercials. In his spare time he studied the Meisner Technique of acting at The Actor’s Pulse in Sydney.
In 2003, Marc undertook a mentorship with Lucasfilm producer Tippy Bushkin
that included a 3-month screenwriting stint at Skywalker Ranch. In 06’,
Marc’s received finance from the Australian Film Commission to create the
short film “Death’s Requiem”, which screened at over 20 International Film
Festivals scooping awards at St. Kilda, Method Fest, Eerie Horror Film Festival and Shriekfest. He was recently awarded the Emerging Filmmakers Fund for the short film “Dark Horse” from the NSW Film and Television Office.
Marc has directed award-nominated spots for Volvo, Amnesty International,
St. Vincent’s De Paul and RSPCA. His music video work includes clips for
Rogue Traders, Seany B, The Follow, Katie Underwood and Monsta G.
As a prolific writer, illustrator and director of actors, his strength has always been balancing strong characterization with a cinematic aesthetic. His focus is on discovering the emotional premise of a script and expressing it through compelling visuals. Marc is currently in development on a feature film version of “Death’s Requiem” to be shot in 2010.
