Born in Brooklyn, New York, Michael Anzalone studied fine arts from the age of ten to seventeen. After attending Parsons School of Design where he majored in Fashion Design, he became an assistant to Koos van den Akker, who had apprenticed with Christian Dior. Soon after, he designed collections for Patricia Field, Henri Bendel, and created his first costumes for the stage, specifically for the Joffrey Ballet and the Negro Ensemble Company. Subsequent design projects include the creation of over six-hundred original costumes for a rock opera based on the New Testament. Michael has worked for such organizations as the Public Theater, the Juilliard School, and Barbara Matera Studios. He also worked as a dresser for Broadway productions such as: 'Jerome Robbins' Broadway', 'My Fair Lady', 'Peter Pan', and 'Beauty and the Beast'.
In addition to his work on Broadway, Michael Anzalone has contributed to over thirty-six feature films and television productions since 1991, working with such actors as Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Connelly, Mira Sorvino, Meryl Streep, Diane Keaton, Leonardo DiCaprio, Joaquin Phoenix, Steve Buscemi, John Leguizamo, and Harvey Keitel. Most recently he has worked as costume designer for the films “Ira and Abby”, “The Ministers”, and “Handsome Harry”. Michael Anzalone is a member of the United Scenic Artists 829.
