A pure adrenaline rush.

Winner of a Best Special Effects prize at the 2007 Young Cuts Film Festival, Without Warning looks like an epic disaster movie… and it only last six minutes. I was reminded of the trailers for the upcoming Roland Emmerich film 2012. Like most disaster movies, this one revolves around a love story. Jess (Rosanna Grelo) is a small-town girl. We see her flirting with her boyfriend Jake (Richard Sutton) in his pickup truck. This scene is like the calm before the storm. The movie is pausing to catch its breath before hurtling at breakneck speed into a race against time.
After Jake drops Jess off, he drives out to the highway. Pretty soon, things are falling out of the sky. A jeep explodes, and Jake gets chased by a tornado.
Watching this movie is a pure adrenaline rush. The effects are astounding, and the editing and shaky camerawork put us in the moment. Expect great things from director Corey Mayne, who worked as a technical director on Robert Zemeckis’ Beowulf.
