Course Language: English
One of the most comprehensive film programs in the Southeast - with coursework in film acting, film directing, film production, and editing - perhaps the best thing about film training here is that it includes production work on both sides of the camera. Since 1998, the department has produced six feature length films and supported the production of two other independent films. Students have enjoyed the opportunity to work as actors, directors, assistant directors, lighting technicians, sound technicians, camera operators, location scouts, and just about every other job associated with film production.
- Students interested in film production may take course work in film lighting, sound engineering, and advanced editing techniques. Editing students learn to work in Final Cut Pro and Avid Express Pro.
- Students interested in film directing learn advanced principle of motion picture photography. They also train in shot composition and selection, storyboarding, and visual storytelling. Perhaps most important, they learn to communicate efficiently and effectively with actors.
- Student actors learn essential film acting techniques such as stillness, frame presence, openness, and communicating through the camera. They also do an extensive amount of fully-produced scene work utilizing realistic locations, lighting, sound, and costumes. In addition, they have the opportunity to work on feature length, festival-entered film projects.
The department does not offer a degree in film.
